Sing to the Lord

I’m gonna lift my hands
‘Til I can reach heaven
I’m gonna shout Your name
‘Til the walls come falling down
I’ve come to worship I’ve come to worship.
(Highlands Worship: “Place of Freedom”)

This has become one of my favorite songs. It speaks volumes to my heart because when I worship, I surrender everything to the Lord. As I lift my hands, I acknowledge that God is all I need, and I’m going to worship until I can reach heaven. When I shout the name of Jesus— which is above ALL names—the walls are going to fall down. Everything that is against me becomes nothing in His presence. I surrender my own insecurities; I surrender my children’s futures; I surrender uncertainties about my country’s future; I surrender my marriage; I even surrender my hopes and fears!

The psalmist David said, “But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble” (Psalm 59:16). Why not give it a try! Sing until you feel you have reached heaven and you sense the walls come falling down. Sing with David, “I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Psalm 18:1, 2).

Our world becomes right again when God opens our spiritual eyes and shows us that He is in control. If we do our part and worship Him, He will do His part and be our faithful Rock.

As women in ministry, we cannot internalize all the stressors that affect the people to whom we minister. We often serve as intercessors, confidants, and counselors; however, we cannot embrace everyone’s cares as our own. Only God is capable of doing that. As you walk in your ministry calling and anointing, learn to daily release the needs of others to the Lord and worship Him. You will find strength, comfort, and new wisdom as you surrender to Him through your worship.

Lift your hands until you reach heaven and shout His name until the walls come falling down!
